Is it curriculum vita or vitae?

Posted on 2020-12-25 By Aman Kelley

Is it curriculum vita or vitae?

The two phrases are synonymous. Vita is Latin for life, and while it’s true that its plural is vitae, in the phrase curriculum vitae the word vitae is not a plural; it’s the genitive singular, translated of life. So curriculum vitae means course of life and vita (life) is a shorter way to say it.

Should you design your CV?

Only professionals in certain careers should consider using a graphic resume design — period. If you work or are pursuing work in a field where a graphic resume design is appropriate, it’s a good idea to also have another version of your resume handy that is free of graphics and uses a simple, clean design.

Where is the accent in resume?

Here’s your answer: Both the fully accented and unaccented versions, “résumé” and “resume”, are equally popular and valid spellings of the term, according to Merriam Webster. Resumé with the acute accent just over the last e is technically correct, but it’s less common and not recommended.
