International Co-op Northeastern students can pursue a six-month international experiential learning opportunity in over a dozen countries with a broad range of international organizations. That is why Northeastern carefully selects and prepares candidates for international experiential opportunities.

Is Northeastern University a co-op school?

For over 100 years, Northeastern has been a world leader in cooperative education (co-op), the University’s cornerstone experiential learning program. By alternating semesters of academic study with periods of full-time work, students are able to transform work across academic and professional contexts.

Can international students do Co-op?

How long can international students work on co-op? Students on an F-1 visa may work on co-op, using CPT, for the length of time their academic program designates or requires for graduation. Co-op employment must be related to the F-1 student’s major and provides practical training.

Is Coop required at Northeastern?

Co-op is not required, although it is highly encouraged. Almost all students participate in co-op, with undergraduates typically completing two or three during their time at Northeastern. Each student is connected with an academic advisor, co-op coordinator, and if applicable, a global co-op coordinator.

Does Coop require CPT?

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is any type of alternative work/study, internship, cooperative education, or practicum that is offered by sponsoring employers through agreements with a school. ➢ CPT must be required by the curriculum or the student must receive credit through COOP-170.

Can international students do Co-op in Canada?

As an international student on a study permit, you will require a co-op work permit to do your work terms in Canada. Your study permit cannot be used to work at a co-op work term job. A co-op work permit is required.
